Who will I be seeing?
There are two doctors. Dr. D. A. Satish is the Senior Consultant Dermatologist and looks after skin, cosmetic dermatology and laser treatment. Dr. P. Lakshmi Satish is the Senior Consultant ENT Surgeon and Allergist, and is the Director of the clinic. The practice has been in Jayanagar since 1992.
What is Dr Satish's training and background?
Dr. D. A. Satish took his MBBS at Bangalore Medical College in 1978 and his MD in Dermatology and Venereology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, in 1983. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (2016) and an International Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He taught dermatology at M S Ramaiah Medical College for nine years, served twenty years as Senior Consultant and Chief of Dermatology at Sagar Hospitals, founded the Bangalore Dermatological Society in 1992, and was National Vice-President of IADVL. He received the IADVL Lifetime Achievement Award for 2023. His Karnataka Medical Council registration number is 16115.
What is Dr Lakshmi's training and background?
Dr. P. Lakshmi Satish took her MBBS at Bangalore Medical College in 1984, winning the Gold Medal for the highest marks in ENT in the final year, and her MS in ENT at the same college in 1989. She trained in the United Kingdom at Sunderland Royal Hospital and took the DLO of the Royal College of Surgeons, London, in 1994. She was Honorary ENT Consultant at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health for eleven years and at NIMHANS for six, and was Hon. President of the Bangalore branch of the Association of Otolaryngologists of India.
What skin conditions do you treat?
The clinic's own patient leaflets cover acne and acne scarring, psoriasis, vitiligo, lichen planus and lichen planus pigmentosus, rosacea, urticaria, hidradenitis suppurativa, pityriasis rosea and keratolysis exfoliativa; fungal infections including tinea and pityriasis versicolor; shingles, cold sores, warts, scabies and molluscum contagiosum; male- and female-pattern hair loss; and the skin signs of polycystic ovarian syndrome. Dr Satish's stated special interests are clinical dermatology, acne, aesthetic dermatology and photodermatology.
What procedures and treatments are offered?
Laser hair removal, the Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser for pigmentation and tattoos, intense pulsed light, targeted phototherapy and PUVA phototherapy, PRP and GFC injections for hair restoration, microneedling fractional radiofrequency (MNRF), chemical peeling, microdermabrasion and cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen. The clinic also has patient information on shingles vaccination.
Do you see children?
Yes. Several of the clinic's leaflets deal with conditions common in children — pityriasis rosea, tinea capitis on the scalp, keratolysis exfoliativa and guttate psoriasis. Dr Satish is a life member of the Indian Society for Paediatric Dermatology and served as its President in 2003–2004. Dr Lakshmi Satish was Honorary ENT Consultant at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health for eleven years, and paediatric ENT is one of her special interests.
How many sessions will a procedure take?
It depends on the procedure. Chemical peeling is usually four to five sittings two to four weeks apart. Microdermabrasion averages 5 to 12 treatments one to two weeks apart. MNRF is usually four to six sessions four to six weeks apart. Laser hair removal usually needs four to six treatments or more at four- to six-week intervals. The Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser averages four to six monthly sittings, and up to ten for a tattoo. PRP and GFC are repeated every four to six weeks, with improvement usually visible from about three months. Your doctor will set a plan for your own skin at the consultation.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
The procedure has been approved by the U.S. FDA for permanent hair reduction, but Dr Satish's leaflet is explicit that permanence cannot be promised. Hair growth is cyclical, and each treatment only affects the follicles that are in their growth phase at the time. Patients usually report that regrowth is slower, finer in texture and sparser after treatment.
Can my skin condition be cured?
That depends entirely on the condition, and your doctor will tell you honestly what to expect. Some conditions clear completely with treatment — fungal infections, scabies and pityriasis versicolor among them. Some settle on their own, such as pityriasis rosea, which takes six to eight weeks. Others are long-term conditions that treatment controls rather than cures: Dr Satish's psoriasis leaflet states plainly that treatment can clear or greatly improve psoriasis in most cases but does not cure it. This clinic does not guarantee a cure or a specific outcome for any treatment.
What are the consulting hours?
The clinic is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm and again from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm, and on Saturday from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm and 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm. It is closed on Sunday. The two doctors sit at different times, so please check the doctor's own page and call before you travel.
